Thanasagren Moodley from Chatsworth will be vying for votes on May 29, when South Africans will cast their ballots in the national and provincial elections.

The community activist and comedian says he's determined to represent the Indian community.

"For many years being on the ground, I felt that the Indian community was side-lined, marginalised, discriminated against, and so I have always been from the outside shouting.

"I am not saying I can fix the issue, but I'd like to ask the questions. For example, the BEE issue. I would like to ask why that is in place. And when are we going to be in the same field and be able to have equal opportunities."

Moodley, popularly known as local comedian 'Karou Charou', says while critics might try to use his entertainment reputation to discredit him, he's not to be underestimated.

"The detractors only look at one layer. Even as a comedian, I have a humanitarian side and did lots of activities on the ground in the last 10 to 15 years."
