Tenza, her court interpreter husband, Sandile Mkhize and the couple's three young children were all found dead in their home on Wednesday afternoon.

Police are investigating an inquest as well as four counts of murder.

At this stage, it is suspected that Mkhize shot Tenza and the children before turning the gun on himself.

The Justice Department's Steve Mahlangu says Tenza joined the judiciary as an acting magistrate in July 2008.

"She was appointed permanently as a magistrate on 1 August 2016," said Mahlangu.

"Tenza was well-respected by her colleagues. The department has sent its heartfelt condolences to the family."
