Julius Malema's Newcastle land case postponed 



The land occupation case against EFF leader Julius Malema has been postponed in the Newcastle Magistrate's Court. 


Charges were laid against Malema after he told EFF supporters in Newcastle last year to occupy any piece of land they wanted.


It's one of two land cases against Malema, with the second being heard in Bloemfontein over similar statements, which Malema says he stands by. 


his been charged under the apartheid-era Riotous assemblies Act, whose constitutionality is now being challenged. 


National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson,  Luvuyo Mfaku explains the reason for the postponement.


"The matter has been postponed to the 6th of July 2017 in order to enable the defence to file papers challenging the provisions of the [Trespass] Act," he said.
