Judicial Commission, SAHRC asked to address Judge Jansen remarks
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Complaints are mounting against High Court Judge Mabel Jansen after she suggested in a post on social media that rape is part of black culture.
The DA wants the Judicial Services Commission and the SA Human Rights Commission to investigate the matter while IFP Parliamentary chief whip Narend Singh says they are already preparing to file their complaint with the JSC.
"As the IFP, we are shocked and surprised that a person holding a position such as hers where you have to be fair and impartial when dealing with matters before you could make those kinds of statements.
"We are preparing our affidavit and completing the prospective complaint form to submit a complaint to the Judicial Services Commission," he said.
The South African Black Lawyers' Association says it's disgusted by Jansen's comments which it has labelled racist.
President of the association Lutendo Sigogo says she needs to do the right thing.
"She has agreed that what she did doesn't reflect well for a person who is occupying a position and resign. If she doesn't resign then we are going to take this matter up with the JSE and judiciary contact committee.
During a Facebook debate last year, Jansen said in black culture, women are there simply for men's pleasure.
She also claimed she had yet to meet a 12-year-old black girl who had not been sexually abused.
The judge's comments have recently been made public by writer Gillian Schutte, who had challenged Jansen's views during the debate.
Filth. Absolute filth. Remove #MabelJansen from the bench. Then review her past judgements. Such racist filth! pic.twitter.com/7fkzZru2xi
