Judgement reserved in Zuma 'spy tapes' case

Judgement reserved in Zuma 'spy tapes' case

Judgement has been reserved in the DA's application for a review of the 2009 decision by the then Director of Public Prosections Mokotedi Mpshe to drop the fraud and corruption case against the President.

Proceedings today were brief - with the North Gauteng High Court hearing mainly from the DA's legal team as it replied to the arguments over the last 2 days by the legal representatives of the NPA and President Jacob Zuma.

DA legal representative, Sean Rosenberg argued no attempts were made by then Prosecutions' Head Mpshe to balance the seriousness of the charges against Zuma with the conduct of former Scorpions boss, Leonard McCarthy. He said any interference in prosecutions, no matter what the actual impact is, cannot be condoned but you have to ask whether in a case like this - the end defeats the means.

"If anybody were to ask themselves why are these charges being withdrawn after all this time for the eleventh hour for this reason - it makes no sense," he said.
