Jozini Municipality finally gets new mayor
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Delani Mabika of the IFP is the new mayor while Lindiwe Gumbi has been elected as Speaker.
Both the Mayor and municipal speaker are with the IFP and the deputy mayor, Sphamandla Mathenjwa is an independent candidate.
The delay had been caused by a deadlock between political parties at the municipality. The IFP and the ANC were tied to eight seats following the Local Government elections.
For weeks, talks collapsed in both the Jozini and Nquthu municipalities political parties failing to reach an agreement in council meetings on the filling of vacancies.
Last week, the KZN Department of Co-operative Governance said it was studying all legal options to intervene in the hung municipalities.
