Journalists have to stand up for what is right: Sanef
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The South African National Editors' Forum has weighed in on the latest developments at the SABC where three journalists are facing disciplinary action for voicing their concerns.
The three are said to have liaised with other media about the SABC's editorial policy.
They also wrote a letter to COO Hlaudi Motsoaneng, expressing their dissatisfaction.
Sanef's Mathatha Tsedu says journalists are sometimes faced with harsh realities.
"It obviously has to be very difficult within the SABC for community journalists to do their work but that is the challenge that we carry as journalists wherever we are that we have to stand up for what is right and take the consequences of our own actions and beliefs," he said.
Efforts to get a hold of the SABC spokesperson on the matter have been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Sanef is leading journalists from across the country in pickets outside the SABC's Johannesburg and Cape Town offices.
Durban journalists are also expected to participate.
Activists who're gathered outside the SABC in Johannesburg say the suspensions must be lifted.
