The building houses the Gauteng Departments of Health, Human settlements and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

It remains cordoned off after the fire reignited this morning and due to falling debris.

Three firefighters died while tackling the blaze in the afternoon.

One of the firefighters died after he slipped and fell from the ledge while battling the blaze.

Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson, Nana Radebe says the firefighter fell due to poor visibility from the large plumes of smoke.

Eight others were taken to hospital for exhaustion and smoke inhalation while seven suffered various injuries and burns, while one was treated for exhaustion.

Firefighters have meanwhile intensified efforts to extinguish the blaze after it reignited this morning.
