Joburg driver escapes after vehicle catches alight
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A man has escaped a vehicle on fire with moderate injuries on the N1 North in Midrand, Johannesburg.
Paramedics found the driver - who sustained moderate injuries - sitting against the barrier yesterday evening.
It's alleged the driver lost control of his vehicle following attempts to evade a petrol tanker, colliding with the centre barrier.
The driver managed to escape the car before it was fully engulfed in flames while paramedics treated him on the scene.
Joburg metro officers are investigating the incident.

Safety tips to follow when your vehicle is on fire - courtesy of Arrive Alive.
Do not panic.
If the vehicle is moving, signal and move to the side of the road.
Turn off the ignition to shut off the electric current and stop the flow of gasoline.
Set the vehicle in park or set the emergency/hand brake.
Make sure everyone gets out of the vehicle - do not waste time by removing personal belongings.
Move at least 100 feet away. Keep traffic in mind and warn oncoming traffic.
Do not go back into a burning vehicle and notify emergency services from a safe distance.
If the fire is relatively small and in the interior, use your extinguisher. If there's a small amount of smoke coming from under the hood, pop the release but don't lift the hood. Quickly spray through the gap, from several feet away.
If the fire is large - do not attempt to extinguish it.
