Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Institute of Security Studies says the latest crime stats show concerning violent and property crimes trends.

Minister of Police Bheki Cele yesterday announced that over 4 900 killings took place between January and March this year. It's an increase of over 380 murders compared to the same period last year.
The Eastern Cape and KZN saw double-digit rises in their murder rates at 21.5 % and 16.9% respectively.
The ISS's Lizette Lancaster Meyer says as the COVID-19 pandemic impact continues, we'll see more violence.
"We are seeing rising criminal activity in areas such as uMlazi and other hotspots - predominantly urban areas", she said.
"This as since many of these areas are plagued by interpersonal violence whether it's robbery, retaliation crimes, gang violenc and other types and it needs urgent attention", Meyer said.
