The case accuses Israel of genocide against Palestinians in its Gaza offensive.

The bloodiest-ever Gaza war broke out after Hamas gunmen launched their October 7 attack that resulted in about 1,140 deaths in Israel, mostly civilians.

Hamas also took around 250 hostages.

Israel has responded to the deadliest attack in its history with relentless bombardment, a siege and then a ground invasion of Gaza that has killed at least over 23,000 people.

Herzog made the remarks during a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday.

“We will be there at the International Court of Justice and will present proudly our case of using self-defence under our most inherent right under international humanitarian law. Where we are doing our utmost, under extreme complicated circumstances on the ground, to make sure that there will be no unintended consequences or civilian deaths.”
