Israel & Hamas agree ceasefire, prisoner exchange deal
Updated | By Newswatch
Israel's government has agreed to a deal with Hamas that will see
the release of some hostages and a temporary ceasefire.
It's understood the agreement involves the swapping of 50 women and children, who have been held captive in Gaza since October 7 with Palestinian prisoners.
Hamas has asked for the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners from Israel's jails.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office says this will happen over four days.
His senior adviser, Mark Regev says that is a clear incentive for Hamas.

"The Israeli Defence Forces are destroying their underground infrastructure. They've been taking out their military machine, they are desperate for a time-out and for us, it's an opportunity to get people out."
Hamas and Islamic Jihad have confirmed the ceasefire, which includes a pause in fighting on the ground and in Israeli air operations over southern Gaza.
Qatar helped to broker the talks.
