Alleged ISIS affiliate denied KZN prison transfer
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The Verulam Magistrate’s Court has refused to order that suspected ISIS affiliate and murder-accused Safydeen Aslam Del Vecchio be moved from Kokstad's Ebongweni "C-Max" Prison to Westville Prison here in Durban.

Del Vecchio and his two co-accused in the murder of UK-born botanists Rodney and Rachael Saunders made another appearance in court yesterday. They have all been denied bail and are in custody at the moment.
Legal Aid attorney, Mondli Mthethwa, who is representing Del Vecchio now, says his client has been kept in isolation at C-Max for the last four months.

He says Del Vecchio has not been able to wash himself regularly or have any communication with his legal representation and so cannot respond to a divorce summons from the mother of his children, to whom he is still legally married.
Magistrate Irfaan Khalil, though, has refused to direct the Department of Correctional Services on where to house an inmate. Khalil though has agreed to direct the authorities to allow Del Vecchio access to a lawyer.

The case has been adjourned to December, for further investigations.
