IRR wants Ramaphosa to veto Land Expropriation Bill
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
The Institute of Race Relations (IRR) has handed over a
memorandum of demands to the presidency on the Land Expropriation Bill.
The institute's Gabriel Crouse says President Cyril Ramaphosa can prevent “human rights abuses” by stopping the bill from becoming law.
"The bill, which doesn't merits, which has been driven through by biased elitist political agenda.’
Crouse believes the bill is part of the abuse faced by the people of South African on a daily basis.
"Abused by police who let us down when we call them and when we call on them to help us stop crime - politicians who abuse us by stealing our money and big business enablers who get on board with that," he said.
He says the first step to change the country’s trajectory would be for the president to veto the bill before it becomes law.
The bill is aimed at giving the government powers to expropriate property in the public interest or for a public purpose.
