Irate PMB residents petition city over decline in services
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Residents of Pietermaritzburg have been asked to sign an online petition demanding action to clean up the city.
Several groups, including the Msunduzi River Crisis Committee, have raised concerns over a decline in services and conditions.
Uncollected rubbish and pollution caused by sewage spills are among the major challenges.

The committee's David Still says the deterioration has led to a tenfold increase in E. coli levels in rivers and streams since 2010.
"It caused the Dusi Marathon two years ago to move the start of the race.
“They could no longer start it in the traditional place because the quality was so bad. When you drive around some parts of Maritzburg there is just trash everywhere."
