Ipid probes deadly Mariannhill shootout

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says it's launched its own investigation into a deadly shootout west of Durban.
Five suspects were killed in a gunfight with police in Mariannhill on Thursday.
Officers say they received information that some suspects wanted for crimes including murder, robbery and hijacking were spotted in the area.
They say the group opened fire on them on Abbot Francis Road.

The officers were unharmed.
"Ipid is aware if the incident in Mariannhill and will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting," says Ipid's Robbie Raburabu.
KZN police say one of the suspects was sought in connection with a mass shooting at a scrap yard in Mariannhill in February.
