Five suspects killed in shootout with police in Mariannhill

Five suspects have been shot and killed in Mariannhill, west of Durban.
Police say they received information that some wanted suspects were spotted around the area.
They say the group started firing shots toward officers, who returned fire on Abbot Francis Road.

None of the officers were injured.
KZN SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says one of the suspects was being sought in connection with various crimes, including murder, robbery and hijacking.
"He was also linked to the Mariannhill scrapyards murder crime scenes where five people were shot and killed in two separate incidents in February this year.

"The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified for further investigations."
