IPID probes after 'intoxicated, uncontrollable' man found hanging at Inanda holding cell

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is probing the death of a man inside the holding cells of Durban's Inanda Police Station.
The 25-year-old man is said to have arrived at the police station on Monday.
IPID spokesperson, Grace Langa says the man was upset and claimed his family had assaulted him and that he wanted to kill them.
"It is alleged the person was intoxicated, drunk and uncontrollable. The police officers asked him to wear a mask and he refused; instead, it is alleged he threatened to assault police officials who then blocked him into a temporary cell with the intention to process him for arrest for failing to wear a mask."
Langa says officers went to check on him about 15 minutes later.
"They found him hanged with his own belt and he was certified dead by the KZN paramedics. IPID is investigating the matter."
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched into the death of a woman whose body was found in a storm water drain in Harding in southern KZN.
The discovery was made yesterday in the CBD.
Search and rescue teams retrieved the decomposed body and handed it over to police.
The identity of the woman is not known at this stage.
