IPID to probe death at Wits protest

Police watchdog IPID says it's investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a civilian during a student protest near Wits University.

A man died after being shot in Braamfontein this morning.

It's understood he was passing by when police were firing rubber bullets in a bid to disperse protesting students who are unhappy about financial exclusion.

IPID's Ndileka Cola says four officers have been assigned the case. 

"The directorate has dispatched a team of investigators to cordon off the crime scene, conduct investigation processes and get any set of information that is available. More information will be available when the team has finalised its report."
