The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after a 17-year-old learner was killed when police opened fire on a group of protesters in Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape.

IPID's Robbie Raburabu says another learner from Lubaleko Senior Secondary School was also wounded.
He says police were called to the scene yesterday when a group of angry community members set a local tavern alight.
Raburabu says officers were pelted with stones and they started firing rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, which had swelled after school children joined the protest.
Rabu-rabu says IPID is investing a case of murder and attempted murder.
