Investigations launched after learners forced to shave head
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
A KwaMashu teacher who is alleged to have violated rights of pupils by forcefully shaving their heads, this past week, is at the centre of an investigation.

KZN Education says the incident took place at Isivananda High School and was brought to its attention after complaints were laid with the department. While the circumstances surrounding what happened aren’t clear, it appears a few boys with naturally long hair were forced to have their heads shaved.
They had apparently sported Afro hairstyles for religious reasons.
Education's Muzi mahlambi says a circular was issued two years ago condemning the forceful shaving of learners in schools.
"We did indicate to educators who continue to contravene this policy after the circular was issued that there would be consequences", he said.
"Any teacher who is behind the forceful shaving of the pupils' heads knows exactly what is coming their way", he said.
