Updated | By Algoa FM news
A Rhodes University student from Durban has died following a fire at a student digs in Grahamstown.

Eastern Cape police says the fire broke out at a house in Milner Street in the early hours of this morning in the kitchen.
Govender says the student's room was adjacent to the kitchen and he could not escape the blaze while his house-mates were able to make it out safely.
Rhodes University spokesperson Catherine Deiner says four other students were unharmed.
"I can confirm that one of our students has tragically passed away in a fire that broke in the digs at around 12.30am this morning. A further four students were home at the time and fortunately, they sustained no physical injuries. The warden, Director of Student Affairs, the Vice Chancellor and the council team has been attending to the students who are affected.
"This incident has been deeply traumatic and we extend our sincerest condolences to family and friends who have lost a loved one. The Director of Student Affairs will release a statement once she has attended to all the students," she said.
