All 14 candidates in the running will be interviewed on the same day to ensure no one has an unfair advantage.

The interviews are scheduled for tomorrow and will be held in Cape Town.

Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee appointed to nominate Thuli Madonsela's successor, Makhosi Khoza says the contract of the Public Protector is non-renewable.

"That person who is selected will then have to be tabled to the National Assembly before the end of August to make way for a new start forward to start as the new public protector on October 1.

"However, that is going to be dependent on whether that candidate does get 60% support from the 400 members of the National Assembly," she said.

Meanwhile, Thuli Madonsela once said her successor must be a custodian who wants to uphold and strengthen democracy in the country.
