Intense police measures called for in terrorised communities
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Safety in KZN says it has asked police to conduct more intelligence driven operations to help catch criminals who are terrorising communities in the province.

This comes after 2 mass murders took place in the Matimatolo and Mariannhill areas this week. In the first attack, 8 family members were gunned down in their homes in Matimatolo, near Greytown, on Tuesday night. 5 family members were killed in the second attack in Nteke on Thursday.
In a statement released this week the safety department in KZN says it strongly condemns the murders of the Sibiya and Gwala families. In Matimatolo the Sibiya family were killed after being shot and their houses torched by unidentified suspects.
In Marianhill, the Gwala family was attacked by unknown suspects who opened fire, killing five family members. The department says the provincial Government, has appointed a Provincial Organised Crime Task Team to investigate the murders.
Officials are confident investigations will result in arrests.
