The fatal attack on civilians at a Texas church is the second mass shooting in the United States in the last 35 days.
The victims, who ranged from five-years-old to 72, were gunned down at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs - a rural community of some 400 people - 50 kilometers southeast of San Antonio.
Reacting to the attack, President Donald Trump says the nation was living through "dark times" but guns were not to blame for Sunday's carnage - which came just five weeks after the worst mass shooting in modern US history.
Leading calls for gun control - Democrat, Senator Chris Murphy took to Twitter saying," None of this is inevitable... It is uniquely and tragically American. Prayers are important but insufficient. Enough is enough."
