Police say the situation was under control by yesterday afternoon.
Protestors barricaded roads with rocks and burning tyres in several areas including Inanda and KwaMashu, north of Durban.
Spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the arrested suspects are from all areas except KwaMashu.
He says the arrests were made after receiving a complaint that a number of roads were blocked by stones and burning tyres.
Meanwhile, a metro police officer is recovering in hospital after being shot while monitoring a service delivery protest along the M25.
