A 73-year-old man is due to appear in an Ntuzuma court on Wednesday for the alleged rape of his grandchild.
The Inanda man was arrested on Monday after it came to light that he allegedly raped the 17-year old girl over a period of six years.
KZN police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo says they have been living in the same home since her mother passed away.
"It is alleged that the suspect from Newtown A in Inanda Newtown, is a foster parent to a 17-year-old girl and they have been living together since her mother passed away."

"She alleges that her grandfather started raping her from 1 January 2017 until 31 May 2022. The matter was reported to Inanda SAPS and was assigned to the Inanda FCS for further investigation."
Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza says a team of social workers will assist in moving the pregnant teen to a shelter.
She says the justice system needs to send out a strong message against rape and sexual assault.
