Updated | By Shaun Ryan
The importance of archiving with the view of preserving human rights among other things will come under the spotlight today in Pietermaritzburg.

Retired high court judge Chris Nicholson will speak at the inaugural Annual Archives Lecture in the provincial capital.
Nicholson was one of the first post-apartheid judges to be appointed to the bench in 1995.
The lecture is being hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture.
Spokesperson Lethukuthula Mtshali says government emphasizes to be transparent.
''You encourage society as a whole to understand why is it important to do good governance, why it is important to be transparent in everything you do as government.
''It is important for us to as a government department to encourage such a culture and we are using this platform which is a celebration of archives to promote that,'' he said.
