The University of KwaZulu-Natal's (UKZN) Professor Mosa Moshabela says the province has been under tight restrictions due to lockdown level 4.
He says the violence and looting that broke out last week prevented many from travelling and moving around.

"I am waging that that represents the majority of the people in KwaZulu-Natal and if that is the case, it means then that people who potentially could have been spreading or getting infection amongst those who were not exposed and the ones who were engaged in the unrest would represent the only group that potentially was exposed.
"So it is possible that we may actually see a situation where the numbers don't go as high as we might expect."
