iLembe officials deny forcing community to dig water trenches
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
iLembe officials say they will extend water infrastructure to an area in Ward 25, where residents were seen digging trenches themselves to install water pipes.
Water services manager Elias Bhengu says it was initially reported that the district municipality had forced the locals to do this.
However, that was not true.
He says community members who grew tired of waiting for their water supply took it upon themselves to find a solution.

"We have to get TLB to do the excavations and thereafter get the material and do all the excavations.
"Community members came to us because they were seeing that we were telling them that there might be a delay getting that TLB for a period because if you are putting an extension it is not a one day job, it might take two, three, or four days.
"Community members said 'no we can help'. We always get assistance from the communities when we do small projects."
