IFP wants eThekwini placed under administration

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KZN has urged the government to place eThekwini Municipality under administration.
The provincial government announced a Section 154 intervention recently to assist the city amid serious concerns over governance.
It will be led by former director-general in the Presidency Cassius Lubisi.
But the IFP believes the intervention is too little and too late.
The party's Mdu Nkosi believes it will not solve the municipality's problems.
"We believe that the intervention is too mild and little too late, the city should have been placed under administration long ago and there are ample reasons justifying that," said Nkosi.
Nkosi says the city continues to fail in its efforts to deliver quality services to residents.
"This is the city that is yet to start fixing the damage it suffered following the April 2022 floods. In this case, it's not about money, but it's petty squabbles within the leadership," he said.
He says government should have acted after former mayor Zandile Gumede was sacked.
"In fact, the city should have been placed under administration in 2018 when former Mayor, Zandile Gumede and cabal were fired. The city has been mismanaged by ANC factions for years and things got worse in 2016 when Gumede was put in charge and started what can now be described as a looting spree which landed her in court."
