KZN IFP member gunned down in uThukela District
Updated | By Portia Cele
The IFP in KZN says the growing number of deadly attacks on local leaders instils fear and compromises the ability to exercise political duties fairly.
The party has reacted with shock after its publicity secretary in the uThukela District, Zakhele Mazibuko, was shot and killed in an ambush-style attack on Saturday night.
An unknown number of gunmen opened fire on the 44-year-old, who was driving home after an IFP district meeting, between Estcourt and Colenso.

The IFP's Mkhuleko Hlengwa says Mazibuko was recently elected to the district's executive committee, as the party prepares for next year's general elections.
"Comrade Zakhele worked in many structures of the party before. He was employed at the time of his death by the uThukela District Municipality as the health and occupational manager. He was very much grounded in the branches of the party at the grassroots level.
"We believe we have lost a foot soldier who was committed to the vision of the IFP of a better and prosperous South Africa," he said.
