IFP marks 40th anniversary

Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi says the representation of young IFP members in student bodies in the country's universities shows that the party is still relevant among the youth.
The IFP's hosted a number of events as it celebrates the party's 40th anniversary.
A rally was held in Soweto yesterday.
During the festivities, Buthlelezi highlighted the strides the party's Youth League has made but also took the time to reflect on the role the party played in the fight for democracy.
''We also campaigned for the release of Madiba and that is why Mr de Klerk - when he announced the release of Madiba in February 1990 - he actually mentioned me.
''I was the only person he mentioned by name who helped him reach that decision,'' he said.
