Buthelezi honoured with international environment award

The IFP hopes South Africans will be inspired by the efforts of its president, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who has received the NatureLife International Environment Award for 2015.
Chief Buthelezi was presented with the accolade during a ceremony in Umgungundlovu yesterday.
The award recognises his work in the preservation of our natural and cultural heritage - but particularly the role he played in the protection of the UNESCO Heritage Site at St Lucia.
The IFP's Blessed Gwala says he knows no one more deserving.
"He has been working for the people, amongst the people for almost his entire life. So that is an indication that he has been a servant of the people for all these years," he said.
Accepting the award, Buthelezi said it was fitting that next month marks 20 years since government announced that it would not mine the eastern shore of St Lucia, adding that a long and difficult battle had been won.
