IFP KZN claims Zandile Gumede gets paid 'for doing nothing'
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The IFP says former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede is getting paid for doing nothing.
It's filed papers in the Pietermaritzburg High Court asking it to overturn her deployment by the ANC to the KZN Legislature.
Gumede was sworn-in as an MPL in August despite her corruption case still being before the courts.
The ANC in KZN was criticised for the decision and several days later Gumede was asked to step aside pending her court matter.
IFP president Velenkosini Hlabisa says this is problematic.
"Which means she is not going to be attending any legislative meeting nor portfolio committee meeting.
"In short, she is doing nothing but she is going to be earning a full salary with all benefits. This what we are challenging, we can not allow the tax payer's money to be used to pay someone who is sitting at home," he says.
