IFP installs new mayor in uMhlathuze
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
uMhlathuze's got a new mayor, just weeks after Nkonzoyakhe Donda took up the role.
He resigned from the north coast local municipality on Wednesday.
However, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) explained it wasn't a shock decision.
Donda had been
holding the fort for Xolani Ngwezi, whom the party had initially approved for
the top position.

The IFP says Donda had been asked to serve as caretaker while the party made changes to its PR candidate list with the IEC.
"Now that the party is able to amend its PR list, the NEC resolved on Monday to implement its 22 November decision that honourable Xolani Ngwesi to be redeployed from the National Council of Provinces to be the mayor of uMhlathuze local municipality," says IFP spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa.
He says Ngwezi is no stranger to local government.
"He's previously served as a councillor of the King Cetswayo District Municipality before being deployed to the national assembly in 2017 and the NCOP in 2021. He currently serves as a chairperson of the IFP in Umhlatuze constituency."
