Six people, including the five IFP councillor candidates and an EFF candidate, appeared in court last week.

They were arrested by the Hawks for allegedly plotting to kill an ANC councillor in August last year.

The IFP says the members, currently out on R7000 bail, are innocent until proven guilty.

The party's Blessed Gwala says the arrests will not impact on their campaigning efforts in the area.

"We know that what happened was nothing but dirty tricks engineered by the ruling party to destabilise other political parties in Nquthu because they want Nquthu by hook or by crook," he said.

The ANC in the province says the law must be allowed to take its course.
