IFP: The ANC did not liberate or build SA alone

IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa says the ANC did not solely rule South Africa between 1994 and 2004 and, therefore, cannot claim credit for the progress of the country during that time.

Hlabisa says under the leadership of the Government of National Unity, which the IFP served, a robust and stable democracy was established between 1994 and 1999.

He made the point during the debate on the State of the Nation Address on Tuesday.

"The ANC did not liberate South Africa nor build it alone; it was a number of political parties involved. The ANC and the ANC alone gave us state capture. They gave us load shedding stage 6, the ANC gave us nine wasted years, and the ANC gave us close to 9 million unemployed people in South Africa. The ANC only serves ANC."

Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald has accused the government of plunging the country into darkness and says it's responsible for the spiralling unemployment.

"Eskom was seen as one of the best electricity utilities in the world. The ANC destroyed Eskom. You were in charge of the war room to end load shedding. You failed. In 2019, the local currency against the dollar was nothing else than R11.55, which is under your leadership. The unemployment rate when you became president was 24 percent; it is now 32 percent."

During her turn at the podium, KZN Premier Nomusa Dube Ncube said the IFP was not uplifting the people of the province.

She's accused the IFP leader of misleading the people.

She's aurged that Ramaphosa's speech was fair and it outlined both successes and failures.

"There are some in our midst whose preoccupation has been to undermine the democratically-elected government under the guise of being honest critics. KwaZulu-Natal has been characterised by disasters, Covid-19, civil unrest, and devastating floods.
