IEC wraps up vote counting

The IEC has confirmed that vote counting has concluded, and the focus is now on capturing and validating results from the general elections.

In KZN, the results dashboard indicates that the process is 99 percent complete with over 3.4 million votes counted.
The Mkhonto we Sizwe party is making history in KZN after scooping 45% of the votes. It translates to over 1.5 million ballots.

In the afternoon, the ANC dropped to third place on the leader board securing almost 17%. The IFP overtook the party with 18% of the votes.
With 97% of the vote captured nationally, the ruling ANC is on course to lose its three-decade-old absolute majority -having won 40% of the support.
The DA has clinched 21% and the MK party is in third place with close to 15%.
