IEC welcomes Municipal Elections date announcement

The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa says it's full steam ahead to ensure everything is in place ahead of voting day.

President Jacob Zuma announced yesterday that the 2016 local government elections will be held on the August 3.
Zuma urged all those who are eligible to vote, more importantly the youth to do so.

The IEC's Kate Bapela says they're happy with the confirmation of the upcoming election date.
"It will allow us now to look at every final step of preparing the municipal elections for 2016 and we will ensure that every effort is not spared to ensure that we're getting ready and lining up everything for the elections on 3 August," he said.
