IEC website temporarily shuts down due to high traffic
Updated | By News24
The Electoral Commission of South Africa’s (IEC) website was down this morning as voter registration got under way around the country.
The website stated that an unexpected error had occurred and technicians were attending to the problem.
“It is more of a volume issue,” IEC spokesperson Kate Bapela said.
She said high numbers of people were trying to access their site to access information about the registration weekend, ahead of local government elections.

The IEC assured that it was working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
As an alternative, people could phone the call centre on 0800 118000.
Stations will be open from 08:00 to 17:00.
A date for the elections has not yet been announced.
