IEC says voter registration venues are secure
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
The IEC in KwaZulu-Natal is confident this weekend's final voter registration drive will be incident free.
It's one last push by the Independent Electoral Commission to get as many eligible voters as possible on the voters' roll - and make sure addresses are reflected correctly.
Speaking on East Coast Breakfast, Provincial Electoral Officer, Mawethu Mosery said KZN was generally a stable province.
"We can predict where there are community tensions. Dealing with security establishments - we protect those particular areas. So I would say all our venues for voter registration this weekend are safe. We had difficulties in Mtuba and some areas in uThukela. We've put a plan together with security forces to secure those areas," Mosery said.
He's urging especially young, first-time voters - to register this weekend if they haven't done so yet - and take part in the country's democracy.
"We are concerned and therefore motivating and encouraging young voters to come out to register this particular weekend," he said.
