They are unhappy over councillor candidate nominations and marched on Tuesday from Gugu Dlamini Park.

The protest comes a day after the party released the approved lists of candidates for the local government elections.

Spokesperson for the branches, Njabulo Mchunu, says there are three issues.

"The PR councillors doesn't reflect on what branches of eThekwini have voiced out at people that must be in the top ten of that list of PR councillors.

"The second issue is the use of branch/ward candidates that we have seen a lot of loopholes and a lot of interference and the third issue is the issue of the step aside rule being used as a weapon to deprive communities to voice their preferred candidates."

Provincial ANC spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela says senior party officials have not yet been handed a memorandum by the marchers.

"If there is an objection, you object at a branch level. Failing which, you go to region up to the province. That's how the process goes. If there are any issues they undergo through all those stages of the appeal, only then will there be conclusivity on their matters.

"As things stand now, we got more than plus-minus 300 appeals or so which are still outstanding which will be attended to by the appeal committee."
