IEC pleased with turnout during registration weekend

The Independent Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal says it's pleased with the roll-out of the final voter registration weekend - which took place this past Saturday and Sunday, ahead of the 2019 national and provincial elections.

Provincial electoral officer, Mawethu Mosery, says there were some certain challenges.
"One was protests at some voting stations around the province. We also had inclement weather and couldn't reach certain venues. In general, we saw quite a high number of voters check the voters' roll as well as register," he said.
Two voting stations in southern eThekwini couldn't open because of access issues as a result of the heavy downpour. But Mosery says the overall turnout was still high and on Saturday alone, more than 100 000 people came out.
'There are also those who we didn't include into the tally who came to check and found that their particulars, and address was correct on the voters," Mosery said.
