Currently there are 25.6 million registered voters in South Africa.

During a briefing in Centurion on the state of readiness ahead of the final voter registration weekend the Commission's Mosotho Moepya stated their objectives.

"To significantly increase the current voters roll will require a large number of young voters who are first time voters to register this weekend. Statistics show that approximately 80% of the eight million eligible voters who are not currently registered are younger than 30," he said.

Moepya says the first registration weekend in March saw over three million people visiting voting stations to either register for first time, re-register or update their details.

22 617 voting stations will be open countrywide between 8am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
