While the commission is still tallying up the number of new voters added to the roll Provincial Electoral Officer Mawethu Mosery says they're pleased with voter participation and are confident the numbers will exceed one million.

Mosery says only four stations on Saturday and two on Sunday got off to a slow start.

"These two are in the new municipality that combines Umtshezi and Mbabazane in Escourt and the White Mountain area in the Midlands. The two stations were in the area of Dalton.

"They were opened. Because there was this extraction dissatisfaction from the community, we did not see as much voters as we would have liked," he said.

Many voters experienced problems with their addresses either being incorrect or missing from the voters' roll.

Mosery says those who received an sms to re-register when they'd done so in March shouldn't have received the message.

"Everyone who registered in March they will have their addresses on the voters' roll in about three weeks time and everyone who registered this last weekend will have their addresses on the voters' roll at the end of April, beginning of May," he said.

The Municipal elections day is August 3.
