IEC expects more KZN residents to vote in upcoming local polls

The Independent Electoral Commission says, if early trends are any indication, it expects a rise in KZN's voter participation in the local government polls.
The IEC hosted its voter registration drive at polling stations countrywide. Registrations via its online portal will continue until midnight.

The IEC's Ntombifuthi Masinga says a high number of people between the ages of 18-21 came forward.
"We have seemed to have done well in the province. Compared to other provinces KZN continues to lead in terms of the level of activity that was seen of the first day of registration."
The details of more than 600 000 additional voters were captured as the IEC rolled out its new Voter Management Devices across registration stations.
