Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Independent Electoral Commission says it'll be pulling out all the stops for the upcoming general election.

It welcomed the announcement of the 29th of May as voting day, saying it will now intensify preparations.
While the voters' roll currently stands at 27.6 million, unregistered eligible voters have until this Friday (23 February) to register.
It's anticipated the election date will be proclaimed on this day.

The voters' roll closed on proclamation.
"Following the announcement of the election days by the president yesterday, it now brings certainty, and people now can make a decision of where they are going to be on the 29th of May,” said Ntombifuthi Masinga, KZN's electoral officer.
“If you are going to be at the residence. for example, if you are a student, you know to update your registration status and provide your residential address. But if you think you're going to be home on the 29th of May, then you need to update your registration status and provide your home address."
