Northwood School in Durban North says in a Facebook post that it's devastated by Fitzgerald's passing. He completed matric there in 2014.
They say he was involved in all aspects of school life and excelled in academics and sport - even representing South Africa in Underwater Hockey.
In another post, the Olive Tree Church on Florida Road says Fitzgerald served in many ways - adding he'll be missed.
Friends of student pilot, Richard Morgan have described him as man so full of life, ambition and adventure.
The chopper the two men were in belonged to the Starlite Aviation Group.
The company has sent its condolences to both families.
