Gugu Mabhida who is the cousin of one of the victims' says she and her boyfriend were meant to join the couples at a tavern that evening but had other commitments.

"It's indeed a great shock because I was supposed to be with them because it was a couple's night out.

Police Minister, Bheki Cele visited some of the families on Monday.

He says they are still trying to establish the motive of this shooting - and that of another attack that happened hours earlier in the area.

In that incident - four people were killed and their bodies discovered on a school sports field.

It's thought they were stock thieves and were victims of mob justice.

"They are accused of having committed some kind of crime, there's talks about stock theft and it looks like they were taken and put in one place and then executed."
